I actually found this offensively bad. Not just poorly made, but morally bankrupt. I genuinely could not believe that we got an honest to god friendzone storyline in the year of our lord 2024. Truly pathetic stuff. I cheered when Will was launched into space and put out of his misery. The Ghost Ship scene was also WILDLY ill-conceived, and framed in a "isn't this fuckin' gnarly?" way, as essentially a ship full of innocent people is slaughtered in lurid detail by our protagonists, with no coherent justification whatsoever. I have no doubt that the books are good, and do a much better job explaining some of these things. It's been a minute since I saw it, so I can't remember what other specific plot points I disliked, but it was almost universally poorly written and incoherent. Can't for the life of me understand the praise, unless people are reacting solely to the (fairly interesting) sci-fi ideas taken from the books.
