American Primeval is a bloody, painful and visually very rich tragedy. This is the most minimalist and effective summary of this series.
The producers' greatest success was the incorporation of filmmaker Peter Berg and director of photography Jacques Jouffret, directly responsible for the aesthetics and atmosphere of the series, which appears raw, cold, somber and dark despite the great display of culture. Dutch planes are mixed with a reduced color palette and a fairly marked contrast between lights and shadows to give us the impression of being in a dirty and inexorable cruel past.
Good performances and a measured but quite good soundtrack when it comes to complementing the scenes mark a rounded and even quality product throughout its episodes. My biggest doubt is a hasty decision at the end of the plot that would throw the entire trip away, but that doesn't overshadow all the previous tragedies shown almost poetically.
Pay special attention to the main starting point of the series: a massacre resulting from a war between Mormons, indigenous people and the American military, filmed prolifically.
I really liked that the first series I see from 2025 is so good. An absolutely recommendable and perhaps even necessary western, it will be part of the highlights in Netflix's virtual vaults.
