We´re in the deep end now. I don´t know anybody in real life who has watched The Walking Dead beyond the All-Out War Arc. To be quite honest most people even dipped out before that fully got started. Which is fair, the show kind of takes a nose dive after season 5 from which it never fully recovers. This is the first season without much of Carl or Rick and even Maggie left the show. There hardly is anybody from the main cast from a few seasons ago left and it shows. Neither Michonne, Carol, nor Daryl work as a protagonist. Michonne even feels extremely off as her character gets changed very strongly after the time shift. 

That all being said I enjoyed this season more than seasons 8 and 9. Walking Dead at that point kind of reached the Soap New Generation era. My grandma used to watch these decade-long soap operas, where after a few years only a few legacy characters stick around or have cameos while you basically get a new cast. It´s the same feeling with The Walking Dead here. Having read the comics it´s a shame that the adaption has been reduced to this, but as I said it is more enjoyable than whatever All Out War was and mostly watchable. There aren´t many stinker episodes here but also none that shined. The only memorable scene was the wall of heads and even there the lack of my care for the characters hurt it. Killing off Henry or Tara should make me feel something but I just shrugged mentally. Talking about Henry. Killing off Carl was a disaster for the Whisperer Arc and I´ll never understand how the showrunners thought that was an acceptable choice. Henry is a horrid replacement and half of the storyline relies on him being horny for Lydia. This would work with Carl, especially as we care about him and trust him to be able to handle himself. Henry on the other side just never clicked with me. 

This season introduces a bunch of new side characters. They all were fine for the most part. This arguably is a problem as the show now lacks any character I genuinely like or am interested in. Daryl hasn´t done much of interest for a few seasons and while I loved Carol around season 5 she has become more and more boring as the show went on. I have committed to finishing this. Mostly as I don´t want to start it again in a few years because I never got around to watching the end, I know myself. But I can´t see how the last two seasons will be anything more than mediocre. Especially as the Commonwealth arc isn´t that exciting and the Whisperer arc doesn´t work when its protagonists are cut out of the story.
