You know that comment a screenwriter made about how they were asked to write dialogue describing what characters are doing so someone only listening knows what is going on... this show is so guilty. It is also guilty of poor planning. They tell the same plot point twice sometimes because it seems they forgot what they wrote even one episode ago. They don't think the show is funny enough so they write in quips that are solely delivered via very poorly added ADR (once you notice this it is hard to unhear). They flounder with the new cast because they don't want to do actual character development. They are wasting cast members by trying to be equitable each episode instead of saying "so this will be a [character] episode with these characters having B and C plots."
There are moments where the cast is thriving. Some parts still are funny. Some are even touching. But the show is failing at keeping its legs under it, in large part to the format. The short 30 minute episodes are overcrowded with characters. The short 10 episode season is overcrowded with storylines that seem to change 3 times over.
I think the loss of Renee put everyone on their heels and they scrambled to fill so many holes.
