me and fleabag against the world.
this show perfectly encapsulates what it means to be a woman, to feel lonely, to fall in love and the difficulty of family.
Fleabags character in the first series is genius, the relationship she has with clare from the get go is genius, the plot development with boo is genius, the way she uses sex to reflect her loneliness is genius. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is GENIUS.
The second series just crushes me every time i watch it tbh.
We see Clares relationship with fleabag grow and develop - martin gets more and more tragic and i just adore how you can tell it’s a play from his scenes. He has such powerful statements to make and then just leaves. IMPACTFUL. i detest him but he is so necessary.
Fleabag and the Priest is one of the most intense and perfectly imperfect representations of love ever - they make me believe in falling in love.
The symbolism of the fox (as God - i think) and the religious issues makes it heartbreaking - to be so utterly in love with someone but not allowed to have them and having to deal with knowing that is soul destroying.
If someone ever told me “it’ll pass” as a response to i love you i think i would collapse into a hole in the floor and never come out.
As someone who feels deeply - this show is so emotional. The comedy is amazing and it allows you to laugh and breathe and connect with fleabag (especially through the breaking the fourth wall obviously) it gives you an opportunity to laugh WITH her.
“I think you know how to love better than any of us. That’s why you find it all so painful.” UGHHHHHHHHHHHHH JUST KILL ME NOW.
It’s so interesting to me the symbolism behind the names - we know everything about Fleabag: every intimate detail by the end - except her name. I think this has a lot to say about how she views and values herself as well as the people around her. There is more to us than our outside portrayal.
This show is so beautiful - you see something more in it every time you watch because of how deeply you connect with the characters.
It’s a masterpiece and something that every woman should watch at least once in their life (probably twice or three times to get the full experience xx)
The way the show develops is just incredible - sex changes from so casual and empty in season one to being the act of tying your soul to someone else with the priest in season two.
Her loneliness in season one is subtle but constant - getting worse and worse until her relationship with Clare completely falls apart and she reaches “the depth of aloneness”. Season two sees her discovering again (after the death of boo) that “people are all we’ve got”.
I can’t fault this show at all.
