Well, the fourth episode comes from none other than Ana Lily Amirpour. Who has a very own style like in The Bad Batch or A Girl Walks Home Allone At Night. You either like it or you don't, but it's definitely intriguing and that's true of The Outsider as well. Because this story is basically about a woman who is more of an outsider and then through a skin care product she thinks that it will solve all her problems. Well, and then the whole thing goes in very strange directions. From the description alone one can probably already recognize the social criticism, or the criticism of the exaggerated fixation on externals in our society today. The message is of course not difficult to see, but I still think it is very effective. Which is perhaps also due to the fact that the characters are very exaggerated, with very exaggerated character traits. The title of the episode could also be interpreted twice, namely on the one hand logically on the outside. But also the fact that the protagonist is an outsider. But even apart from this message that this story wants to show us, the episode can convince. As, of course, through the actors. Because Kate Micucci is just great in the lead role and can convince so much with her big eyes alone. Martin Starr plays her husband and he remains quite shallow, but he can also convince in principle. The episode can also convince with the musical accompaniment. Because the piece of music definitely sticks in your memory. And that's how a really fascinating episode is actually created, but it could divide minds. Because as already mentioned, it is a very own style. Which, for example, is due to the rather slow pace of the narrative, which has already been noticed in their earlier films. In addition, the camera work is very striking with many close-ups and dutch angle shots. So that sometimes seems very strange. At least that's what I understand when it's received that way, although I find it does the exact opposite. Because this unique style of Ana Lily Amirpour at least captivated me, so I followed the episode with enthusiasm and was captivated until the end. So all in all, I understand if you don't like the episode, but due to the criticism of our society today and the current ideal of beauty as well as the unique style, the score and the great actors, the episode can, in my opinion, completely convince. Which is why I even think this is the best episode so far.
