Friends (1994)
The date (kind of random, I only remember it was during summer 2018) marks the first time I've ever completed the show for the first time, and it would be simply impossible to count how many times I've rewatched it, I've lost track many years ago. The show has officially been in my life for 7 years now but the impact it had, as long as the various reruns that would be on TV during my childhood, establish this show as present during almost all my life. Is it the funniest ? Is it the most original ? Is it the most emotional show ? Progressively as I rewatch the show over and over, I become kind of immune to the emotions it wants to provoke since I know everything by heart. But it never gets boring. I wouldn't keep rewatching if it was. "Friends" rebranded itself as a comfort show and I think it fits perfectly. I'm about to enter my 20's and it's scary, but knowing that at the start of the first season, they were all in their mid-twenties and hadn't figured out much yet, with some of them in really complicated situations (Rachel who left her own wedding, Ross being divorced), it reassures me. "Friends" became a part of my life in many ways : my sense of humour is inspired by Chandler's sarcastic lines and Ross' physical comedy. "Friends" also helped me shape my fashion sense : with fashion icons like Rachel and Monica, how can you go wrong ? Lastly, this show became a staple in the world of sitcoms and, while I've watched and loved many other shows, rare are the ones who make it in my top 2, the first place being occupied by Friends, for all these years. To sum it up, there's a reason why this sitcom is so loved and why 30 years after its debut, it's still insanely popular among the new generation : it stays fresh, cosy, and relatable. If you haven't watched it, I recommend you do because there aren't many pieces of media as iconic as this show.
