three of these four stars are for anita + the doctor’s dynamic over the course of a gorgeous year of friendship. i loved the fantastic relationship we were shown, but i wish a bit more time was spent making me care about joy and her almost-death. her mum dying alone is really the only thing we end up knowing about her, and further character development would make her ending so much more emotionally impactful. anita + the doctor ended up having far better chemistry and writing than joy imho which was disappointing.
overall a pretty ok episode, low four stars and i did quite like the ending (as a christian, i did see it coming but enjoyed it nonetheless). fairly good execution of a cool concept. a few plot holes, inconsistent pacing + writing quality, and almost too many callbacks to past episodes but i had fun and that’s all that really matters. slightly disappointing but overall it’s watchable and has some fun historical moments featuring (although as a kiwi sir edmund hillary having a strong australian accent was personally offensive). the only word coming to mind to sum this one up is “nice” which is an apt descriptor.
