easy watch and really grew beyond the silliness that was s1. crazy to think that today the show would be cancelled before getting the time to grow. and the 22 season order is almost a thing of the past, even on network tv.
but though this is a fun, smart, and cozy winter watch it’s not without its issues; most glaring are misogyny and colorism. which I’m noticing so much more on this watch. all the lead women are safe brown or biracial (even the one off love interests and side characters) with only one actual actual dark skin woman in a main role. the rest are petty antagonists and hardly show up. it’s also not lost on me that as the series grows kim gets pushed more to the background and is ridiculed in that stupid episode where they pretend to address colorism but make it out to be a bothsides issue with all the finesse of a brick to the face. i remember watching that the first round I’m feeling very disappointed in this show. i also hated how little effort they put into rounding out kim’s story in the end. it’s annoying because im some ways this series so good and in others it’s so hateful to darkskin black women. and not much has changed today though it’s more insidious.
crazy, how the more things change the more they stay the same.
