funny how two shows centred round black woman friend group came at the same time, but I’m never gonna say no more variety for black women onscreen.
that’s said, the colorism in this was inexcusable. while everyone was written barely above caricature and within sitcom limits, angie was treated like an after thought, saddled with every negative stereotype about black women in the book (greedy, loud, selfish, a user etc and with little depth outside of that until s2, which is still puddle deep characterization tbh) and while the actress did an admirable job with the material, the fact that this is still happening is pathetic & disturbing. and with a black woman at the helm no less??? disgusting. also hated the lackluster handling of lesbian relationships—they paid tye dust and quinn’s sl was so lame that rushed even the actresses chemistry couldn’t help.
for mindless tv it’s not the worst but it’s saddening to see the that sometimes the call (dehumanizations of monoracial, dark skinned black women) is coming from inside the house. 😔
