Senna (2024)
I seem to be in the minority, but "Senna" is the most disappointing show of 2024 for me. I am baffled as to how in 6+ hours this managed to be less informative, less emotional and less respectful than the 1hr 40 minute documentary. The good out of the way first. The racing scenes - while unfortunately few and far between - are excellent and Gabriel Leone is great as Senna and it's obvious he did his research for the role. Now for the bad. It's surprisingly boring, terribly paced, the dialogue is genuinely horrendous and it makes some weird decisions. It heavily focuses on his early life/go-karting career etc - which just wasn't very interesting - and provides copious amounts of pointless side characters who offer absolutely nothing, but then proceeds to gloss over his racing career (especially his final years) and final crash to such an annoying extent. His last couple of years are reduced to a few basic montages and nothing more. It honestly feels like Senna spends more time on the beach, doing karaoke and having sex then he does on the racetrack. But the most egregious part of it all is the crash happens at the end of the last episode, they give him a minimal 'send off' and that's it. The documentary shows the impact he had and still has not only on the sport, but also on the people, especially Brazil. The show on the other hand, puts on some writing and leaves it at that. Just watch the documentary, it's better in every way.

Can not agree in one single point of the criticism. I think it portrayed the documentary in every position but way more detailed and emotionally through the family story/ the rise in formula 3 and co. Just the best two things that could have happened cinematic to portray this legend.
