Good show and better than Hill House imo, even if it runs into some similar problems that Hill House did toward the end. The immediate praise I have to give is that the cinematography and locale are absolutely lush and gorgeous. This is a beautifully directed show that, aside from some occasional lighting issues (Which, tbh, probably had more to do with me watching the show in a lit room more than anything else lol), was always a joy to look at. Exploring the dark history of Bly Manor and how our characters became trapped in something that ran so much deeper than they ever could’ve thought, but also (With characters like Rebecca and Peter, mainly, but also Dani to a lesser extent) exposed them for who they truly were, was very compelling. The show is definitely slow paced and that will NOT be for everyone, but for the most part, the slow pace worked for me. It allowed me time to digest the story’s progression, get invested in the characters, and begin to ask real, substantial questions about the characters and the setting. While the ending was far better than Hill House’s, it still does kinda let down some of the show as I don’t feel it sufficiently tied up characters’ arcs the way I wished it did, but I would still definitely overall recommend this show. It’ll probably end up being a major comfort watch for me tbh. I must say, however, do NOT go into this show expecting Hill House. You will be profoundly disappointed. Instead, go into it expecting a methodically paced, lush, and continuously marinating gothic romance. If you go in with those expectations, you’ll have a much better time, believe me.
