4.2/5
Wow what a show. Left me speechless many times. Especially eps 3 + 4 which contained some really disturbing sequences, and the big monologue from ep 5 that almost made me cry. This show was a lot. It was sad, funny, cringey, honestly scary at times. Seeing events play out on the screen, and being powerless to stop them.
I want to give major kudos to Richard Gadd, the writer/creator and main actor of this show. This story was inspired by his real life experiences. It takes a lot to write about this stuff, perform it, and share it with a world.
I think this show helped me gain some perspective. This was a very disturbing and uncomfortable show to watch but I thought it was important. Not something I would rewatch but I’m glad I saw it. I really felt for Donny, despite feeling exasperated at his inaction. He reminded me a lot of some of my close friends, putting themselves in bad situations “for the plot” or to find that little bit of attention and love. This gave me a lot of insight to their experiences and why people do certain things that may not be good for them. We’re all just broken people looking for love and comfort.
Fun fact: my house got a weird stalker letter at our door last summer 😅😅 but it only happened once so we brushed it off as a joke and ignored it 😅😅 these things happen a lot more than you think 😅😅
