The full-on palace intrigue is dizzying here. It’s tense and humorless and clear, two seasons into Game of Thrones why the BBC greenlit the real-life War of the Roses on which George RR Martin based his book series.
There are no dragons in The White Queen, but there is an element of witchcraft (I cannot decide if it is more curious how underused it is or that it was introduced at all) and the conspiring, backstabbing and shit-hot rage burns just as bright here as in the HBO series.
This limited series was enough to convince Christopher McQuarrie and Tom Cruise to cast Rebecca Ferguson in the fifth (and sixth and seventh) Mission: Impossible. Solid call. Solid performance here.
