A show chock full of emotionally layered ideas, lovable characters, enchanting lore, and more cooking and eating sequences than you can count. But more than anything, it’s just so fun to watch. Even in its darker moments, it’s so easy to sink into episode after episode of Delicious in Dungeon, and I couldn’t help but keep coming back for more. Not only does the show have a deft balance of comedy and drama—both of which it pulls off with abundant panache—but the world and characters feel so completely alive. The central conceit is brilliant. If there’s anything better than anime characters making food, it’s anime characters making food that contributes to character growth and world building. And everything only becomes more interesting and complex the further you explore. So glad there’s more in store! I can’t wait to head back underground and eat with my favorite spelunking crew.
