This episode is not only a masterpiece and some of the greatest in television (imo), but it is simply a work of art and such a mature, mesmerizing and satisfying conclusion to one of most unblemished seasons of television ever. The ending is handled so perfectly in every sense of the word. It is also an episode that really acknowledges everything that this season is about and not only discusses its themes with compelling detail, but also manages to conclude its central story in a tense and emotional way with top-notch pacing as well.
But more than that, this season and episode shows massive skill in its abilty to discern its characters and what really drives them, while also touching on both strengths and flaws that each of them have, which really translates to every one of us. That is multifaceted and intelligent writing at some of its best and the direction and cinematography throughout is also amazing. The acting is all sensational, but i got to give extra praise to Matthew McConaughey for his work in this episode. His performance at the end of this episode is easily some of the most beautiful and touching performances i have ever seen on tv. It really gave me a "Dallas Buyers Club" vibe in some way and it caused tears.
I am so glad that i decided to rewatch this season. I rarely do that to be honest, but when a season is sooo special and fantastic like this one, it is truly a treat. So long True Detective season 1. Won't be long till next time, because as Rust so famously said "time is a flat circle".
