| “I just want to say goodbye, since Alex and I are no longer friends. Once Justin and I start dating, I'll be around, but until that happens, this is goodbye.”
The best thing ever just happened on WIZARDS OF WAVERLY PLACE! Harper finally comes to know about Alex's secret, which means their friendship can develop into something bigger and better, and Harper can be involved in Alex's magical shenanigans from here on. This is what I was hoping would happen when the season started, but it looks like I had to wait another eight episodes for it to happen. But I'm glad it did, and from here on the writers only had to prove whether they were interested in character development, or if they decided that Harper knowing about Alex would not change anything.
The PopCon would have been a lot more hilarious. The writers have gotten costumes for their characters, and they barely do anything with it. I liked the moment of Jerry and Max putting on a wrestling show for a few seconds, but other than that there wasn't anything that could have set the story as somewhat of a parody of Comic Con and the likes. In fact, I was a bit disappointed that Teresa had absolutely nothing to do in this episode. She put on a balloon hat and she invited Battle Diva to a duel, which I would have loved to see (instead, it was the guys who were wrestling). Harper was involved in a costume contest, and then just ended up flying around in her Wonder Woman costume and being the plot device for some archaic wizard rules, instead of being the central character of a contest. And for a group of detectives and security guys who wanted to stop PopCon from becoming a nightmare for the wizards, there wasn't a single wizard (who wasn't named Alex Russo) causing trouble at the convention.
But Harper knows now (what a fancy episode title...) and that has me looking past some of the flaws of this episode. Instead of the WizTech two-parter, this should have been expanded to two episodes because I would have loved seeing more of the Russo family being absolute nerds, and I would have liked a couple more minutes of either Harper or Alex doing fun stuff in the Wonder Woman costume. Heck, even Max had ample opportunities for some shenanigans, but this episode was too short to focus on anything more than Alex/Harper and Justin playing the most mature Russo kid who is unable to hide the fact that he is still a complete idiot.
