I didn’t think the show's worst season would have the best finale, but I’m pleasantly surprised. First off, Holy shit. That is not where I expected Nate’s storyline to go—such a shitty situation for everyone already devastated by the loss of Lisa. At the very least, it seems to have given Nate the closure needed to heal and start a new life with Brenda. For much of the show, David has been defined by fear and vulnerability, especially after the events of “That’s My Dog.” By meeting his kidnapper, he learns that his healing doesn’t come from retribution but from asserting agency over his own life. Claire has a taste of success at the art show, a well-earned moment of triumph where she gets to experience the rewards of her creativity. I think the whole experience will force her to acknowledge her talent and use it to carve out a bright future for herself using her own efforts. Both Ruth and Rico face pivotal moments in their romantic lives. Rico tries to mend things with Vanessa but is crushed when she decides to divorce him. Meanwhile, Ruth grapples with George’s worsening mental health, leaving her uncertain about the future of their relationship. Overall, this was an excellent episode for every character; each of their arcs this season reached its climax and set up their characters perfectly for the final season, which I hear is phenomenal.
