this pretty much did meet my expectations. a flawless show of character writing, and a perfect ending both for the show and lelouch. it's weird bc i've always thought code geass's writing often felt incoherent and messy, but for the finale it feels like every line is impactful, every emotion the characters feel i also felt, lelouch's plan didn't rely on plot conveniences or anything apart from his smartness and above that his willingness to sacrifice everything for everyone around him. the same people who hated him, (which of course was his plane) he died for. the pain he felt which was quite rarely displayed in the show, only when he was with c.c. or sometimes kallen, can be felt through the excellent voice acting, score, and writing.

my favourite part of the episode might have been when nunally said she loved him, and that he pretty much never had to do all of this because she would have been happy just for him to be with her. it's so heartbreaking for her, and he probably never even considered her feelings about his sacrifice, even when it was all for her in the first place.

the final half of season 2 was lacking slightly in zero's presence, so bringing him back as a symbol of hope, and lelouch becoming a devil to the world was such a poetic way to end the show. literally fucking perfect, gets better the more i think about it.

i love lelouch for being able to show his cold and calculated side externally, but for also having internal struggles about his own morality, and being able to have that duality that some characters (like light) lack.
