Actually thoroughly enjoyed this episode, writing issues aside. Seeing Dexter come to grips with his culpability in his actions was a long time coming, but felt mostly earned in light of everything that he’s gone through this season so far. His scenes with Hannah towards the end, even if I yet again hold my stance on the lack of proper development with their relationship, were unbearably wholesome. Once again, Hall & Strahovski have truly electric chemistry together. Seeing them both admit their love for each other at the end was sweet as hell, writing issues be damned. Jim Beaver, as usual, played his role as Hannah’s father to perfection. Great actor. His character is a total POS, but you can’t love but watch him anyway. The end of Quinn’s plot line was actually pretty good and added some interesting complicated feelings about his character’s decision making up to this point. I do worry that my concerns about Laguerta’s investigation of Dexter feeling rushed and hamfisted are not gonna be unfounded given that she’s only NOW fully on Dexter’s trail and we have just 2 episodes left in the season, but I’m willing to retain an open mind for now.
