Agatha All Along is a really solid series, but while some parts show glimpses of greatness, others leave a lot to be desired, resulting in a fun, but uneven show. The most notable aspect is the show's ability to feel fresh and creative. Sometimes it even manages to reach the creativity of Wandavision. I loved the parodying of crime show tropes in episode 1, the nonlinear structure of episode 7, and the twist about the Ballad in episode 9. Unlike many other MCU projects, Agatha isn't burdened with things like bad VFX or cringy jokes. I loved the use of practical sets and effects and thought that the design of the Witches Road and the different trails was excellent. Also, shoutout to the Lopezes who deliver another fantastic song. I haven't stopped listening to the Ballad of the Witches Road since it debuted. Unfortunately, the show falls into the same traps as other Marvel projects. The majority of the episodes are too short which leads to underdeveloped characters and storylines. Most of the trials feel rushed, the Salem Seven are a big letdown, and the secondary characters lack depth. The cast is very good. Kathryn Hahn continues to be a delight as Agatha. She looks amazing, has many hilarious lines, and gets a very interesting backstory. Patti LuPone does a very good job, particularly in episode 7. That's one of the best episodes I've seen in a long time. From the nonlinear storytelling to the callbacks to the payoff, the whole thing was excellent. Aubrey Plaza is great, but we don't get to spend a lot of time with Rio. I wish we'd gotten more of her backstory. Sasheer Zamata and Ali Ahn do a nice job, but their characters are pretty bland and have very little to do. Overall, even though it's not one of Marvel's best, Agatha is still a very fun show. It's not amazing, but when it works, it really works.
