Seeing Dexter discover his genuine love and care for Rita and the kids was amazing. He and Rita have been broke up for all of 1 episode and he already feels guilty lol. Seeing Dexter and Doakes come to serious blows was also fantastic. This definitely feels like a major turning point for Dexter because he’s realizing that, despite Harry’s insistence that he appear “Normal”, his relationship with Rita isn’t just some frivolous part of his cover. It truly matters to him and that’s shown through how he was so not hesitant to see Cody’s school presentation. Seeing both Cody AND Astor, but especially Astor, show their appreciation for him was so wholesome. The ending with Lila, unsurprisingly with the benefit of hindsight, revealed her for the kind of person she truly was. The last time I rewatched this season, I stated that I felt Lila felt out of place in the story, but I don’t stand by that anymore. My feelings may change later in the season, but as it stands now, I really like her character here because she’s the perfect representation of Dexter’s free, selfish side, which he has every desire to surrender to now that he’s realized Harry was kind of a POS. It feels like, to a certain degree, Chloe vs Elena in UC2, and that’s certainly a good thing.
