This is a masterpiece of a season. It’s been a minute since I’ve watched it, so I’ll unfortunately be unable to do a full review like I was planning to but I will just quickly sum up the things I loved about this season and some of my favourite parts. First up - the acting. I go on about the acting a lot in my episode reviews but seriously, the two lead actresses are incredible. I’m genuinely going to be on the lookout for more shows and movies that they are in just because of their performances in this show. Second, the music. Fits every scene so well, shout out to the intro music which is just incredible. The camerawork remains as incredible as it was in season one, I would even say that it improves. So many great shots in this show. Elena’s progression in this season was so so good. I really loved watching her go from a young student finishing High School to becoming an established writer, and engaged to a man who seems cool (so far). A shot that has stuck with me in the weeks since watching this show is the one of her in the finale, walking through the streets of the Neighborhood, and everyone looking at her as though she was alien. As if she didn’t belong. As for Lila, she goes through a lot this season. Since so much time passes in this season, she’s a different person by the end of it. Throughout this season you see Lila constantly broken down, and as soon as she gets something good, or something she likes it gets taken away from her, which crushes her. By the end of the season she’s almost broken. Her defiant care free attitude is all but gone and she’s a mother working in a meat factory(?) I’m so interested in how her character will turn out by the end of the show. Just wanted give a shout out to some of my favourite shots in the season. The shot of Stefano looking into Lila’s room in episode 1. Still get chills thinking about it, it’s so good because it makes you feel what Lila is feeling, absolute dread. Another shot that I loved is in the middle of the season when Nino visits the neighborhood and their shadows kiss but the cameras move out to show they’re not actually kissing. I’m not sure why but thought that was a brilliant shot. And of course all the shots of everyone staring at Elena in the finale. Before the review is over just wanted to take a moment to talk about how much I despise Nino. He’s so awful. He literally only cares about himself, and has no regard for other people. I’m depressed thinking about how people like that really exist in real life. Hopefully Nino is kept to a minimum in season 3 though I really doubt it. This show was put on my radar by @Lavender_Tea (thank you 🙏) however seeing how well received this season was made me want to watch this show asap. It was 100% worth it, one of my favourite seasons that I’ve ever seen. Every episode is pure quality. I hope for more of the same in season 3 and 4.
