Great start to the season. Love seeing Dexter legitimately struggle in the wake of what happened with Brian. Makes total sense given what Dexter was forced to do. There’s one line here that I fucking love, one I think epitomizes the state Dexter is in at the start of this season “When I picked up the knife, it’s like I didn’t know who I was.” Outstanding line. Really goes to show that after all the moral conflict and having his world turned upside down, he has no earthly idea what the hell to do with himself. Drastically increases my investment in his story because it raises the tension and stakes 100th fold because, unlike S1, Dexter doesn’t have some neat safety net to fall back on whenever he doesn’t know what to do. Speaking of which, S2 is probably the best season of the entire show when it comes to plot lines from the previous season bleeding into the next, something that, frustratingly, I feel like this show often struggles with. This season, right out of the gate, has this incredibly investing and exciting sense of tension that is a true rarity for this show to induce, I feel like. Always a sign of great storytelling when you’re this invested despite having full knowledge of all the season’s events.
