Not quite as good as I’d remembered it, but still stellar. The Ice Truck Killer is such a great character because he’s essentially the complete opposite of Dexter. He’s everything Dexter could’ve become without Harry’s guidance and without the grounding compassion and love of people like Rita and Deb. It’s rather frustrating because, like a lot of people, I feel like he was rather underutilized. There’s just so much potential with his character, it’s not even funny. I can’t exactly say what I would do differently, but I just know I wanted more of this character. This may be an unpopular opinion, but The Ice Truck Killer is my favorite Dexter villain. I love me some Trinity, but The Ice Truck Killer’s legitimate compassion and simple yearning for companionship makes the conflict between them so much more complex and compelling than just a simple “Hero vs Villain” conflict. I will say, despite my stance that The Ice Truck Killer could’ve been used more, the end of his storyline was handled very well. Seeing Dexter being forced to make such a devastating and irreparably isolating decision (While also actually admitting that his whole life is a lie) was downright heartbreaking. Despite his, at best, morally questionable deeds, it’s really sad to know that Dexter, to a not insignificant degree, will always be alone. Overall, great series finale even if, even in this season, it still feels frustratingly safe, though that’s an issue throughout really the entire show, quite frankly.
