Yet another great episode. At first, I was a little weirded out by how fast the plot with the psychiatrist was moving, but I actually feel like that’s appropriate given how sinister of a character he ends up being. Shows he sees his patients more as objects than actual people. Also doesn’t hurt that his presence here gave Dexter a shit ton of legitimately great character development. This season continues to build suspense and intrigue regarding what made Dexter the…unique individual he is. Love these “Freak of the week” episodes that actually facilitate legitimate character development in Dexter. The ending reveal about Rudy was also amazing and perfectly timed because it ratchets the tension, intrigue, and suspense up 100th fold because you’re left with a mind racing with so many questions. Also appreciate this season avoided the issue I was concerned about last episode about Neil Perry being a fraud by basically just making him an afterthought. Normally, this would bother me, but I think it helps build more intrigue as to the actual Ice Truck Killer’s motivations and character as well as helping indirectly characterize Laguerta to a certain extent. Plus (And this is the most important part), it doesn’t overstay its welcome and the moment its existence stops serving the story, it’s immediately discarded. Love me some efficient storytelling. SUPER excited for the next episode because I remember loving the shit out of it on my last rewatch.
