Death Note (2006)
Poster for Death Note
Wow Death note has easily solidified itself as one of the best and my favorite animes I've ever watched. I don't even really have good enough words to do this show justice. Throughout the 37 episodes I was completely hooked on and the show does a fantastic job of keeping you engaged and paying attention. The story and plot as a whole is fantastic. I love the idea of the death note and the way the story progress is almost always great. The best part of the show is the story and the characters. Light Yagami is easily one of the best written characters I have ever seen. (Minor spoilers coming up) His development throughout the show is absolutely phenomenal and his growth from going to a normal high school student wanting to help the world to an absolute fucking evil psychopath is actually crazy. He is truly a fantastic character and his voice acting and inner thoughts are amazing. I also fucking love every other character. L plays off Light so perfectly and their dynamic is honestly the best part of the show. Their game of tennis both literally and metaphorically is a great way to represent how the show goes. L is another fantastic character with some great acting and he's a character I won't forget. I also love these other side characters. Misa is super funny and honestly just really enjoyable. I really really like Ryuk, but as the show goes on I feel like he starts doing way way less and I honestly forgot about him for a long period of time. But for some reason I was a huge fan of all the good cops that join the task force in the show. I guess I just like rooting for the good guys but my favorite character in the whole show was probably Matsuda just because he was a great guy and was really fun to watch. I also loved Chief Yagami, Aizawa, Mogi and all of the other good guys. (Major spoilers from here on out but I'll try to avoid specific details) I do want to talk about the ending and final part of the show. Specifically regarding near and that whole arc. Ive heard a lot of people didn't enjoy this arc at all and I have to say I absolutely loved it. There were parts of this Near arc that I was actually enjoying more then some of the L parts earlier in the show. I really like Near I think he is a really good character with some unique characteristics and overall a good character. Not only did I like the final arc but I absolutely love the ending. I think it ends perfectly and seeing Light finally break down and confess was one of my favorite moments in all of tv. His confession is just crazy af and the final ending is all super surprising and really really good. Overall, death note has been one of the best shows o I've ever seen. It's a shame I'll never be able to see these characters again but they will always be remembered and I'll remember this show for how amazing it was. MATSUDA IS THE GOAT. 10/10
