Watched as an introduction to these characters before seeing the movie , a wacky slice-of-life OVA with a cast of newbie police getting fed with lame work like weeding until they got notice to clean up more of the mess left by the (mostly) unseen government , oh and also there’s an episode that riffs on Gojira , Mamoru Oshii really was having fun with this , so confident that it would receive a continuation that there’s barely any mecha action for a mecha anime , it’s setting in a state of governmental rule akin to Akira with all kinds of fascist uprising or communist movement and ambitious scientists , but we stay with this main cast , equivalent to the normal people , excitedly carrying out their daily jobs without a true sight of the politics behind them all with their superiors as those wanting to stand up against it all , there could be a really fun episode where the cast is put into an act convinced that they are haunted to learn that it’s a lesson about the usage of guns or a really tense two-parter of a chess game with the leader handling his past with old friend that happened to become a military extremist , and people still complained about how nowadays things are too politically correct when this show existed
