Poster for The Vicar of Dibley
One of the few pieces of tv or a movie that I've seen that actually portrays a fat woman (or lets face it, any woman who doesn't really fit into the standard) and a conventionally attractive man falling head over heels for her immediately. They don't start off as friends or knowing each other first, he just meets and vibes with her and they have a connection from the start. Even though half the ep is her thinking that he's actually with someone else, up to the point where he's asking her to marry him. It gets played off as a joke but ultimately, Geraldine is who he wants. "I loved you the second I laid eyes on you. And I absolutely know that we are meant to be together, forever." WHAT THEFUCK I WOULD SCREAM TOO. While I love a s3 Bridgerton moment, Miranda and Gary, Rae and Finn!! Matt and Lindsey from Teachers. (I'm sure I'm missing some and I'd love to be proven wrong!!), before this, I don't think I'd seen that sort of "love at first sight" for fat people representation. So for that reason, this will always mean more to me than you might take at face value. Geraldine does always have my heart, I love her and I'm always over the moon when she's winning. Also Richard Armitage is SO TALL he doesn't fit in any doorway in Dibley. At the end when he's sitting on the arm of her sofa and she's only then at eye level with him when standing? I'm weak. PEAK sweaters on this man. Keeley Hawes is also here as a red herring. Anywaaay.
