A little too long for it’s own good. It should’ve been a documentary film rather than a series, even though there’s so much ground to cover with Gwen Shamblin-Lara. The main issue here is jumping between topics without strong transitions. Often it feels like the filmmakers are concerned with covering every single aspect, when there should be stronger emphasis on necessary details. This issue particularly jumps out in the epilogue which is a series of former members bringing up different traumas related to the church. Their experiences are worthy of screen time but the documentary doesn’t do much to connect the issues at hand. As a result, it becomes difficult for the audience to recognize the systemic problems of the remnant fellowship on any distinct level outside of general bigotry and the mythology of its subject.
