Mike Flanagan knows how to emotionally scar you. This is a great modern adaptation of “The turn of the screw” by Henry James. Why? Because Mike Flanagan knows how to make stories his own without losing the essence of the source material. Yet again, we are haunted by ghosts, but are those ghosts representations of the things we dread more in life? they might be a memory, our past, love, loss. The days gone by, the ‘lost’ time, the mistakes, possibilities, the lives that would’ve been. “it’s me, it’s you, it’s us”. To me, this is one of the most heartbreakingly gorgeous storylines out of the ‘haunting series’. Dani and Jamie and Hannah and Owen’s love stories cut so deep I’ll think about them forever. Dani’s care for the children and even the lady of the lake tale made me feel so many things. One of the lines I take with me, that appears randomly sometimes in my head and makes me fall into a Bly Manor rabbit hole: “Dead doesn’t mean gone.” I really love how Mike Flanagan and his team works. There’s so much beautiful writing.
