As much as the first season felt like 2 seasons combined, this season felt like half a season of 4 episodes stretched out into 8 episodes. There were a lot of slow and boring parts with people talking and seemingly nothing much going on, it felt like I was wasting my time, and everything just felt like they were being set up for the next season. The finale was the worst case of it, especially given how epic the penultimate episode was, the finale felt very lackluster and just set up after set up with us having to wait another two years for a pay-off. They should've let Milly Alcock's half of the season be a full season in Season 1, and have the rest of season one come combine with this season, and cut lots of unnecessary things like Daemon being in Harrenhall for the entire season.
That said, there were still a lot of great moments in this show. I think the performances are still amazing, the actors are still knocking it out of the park, and the CGI is not bad, the dragon scenes were definitely the highlights of the season. I love what Aemond's character is going through and the route they're building for him, I loved the exploration on Daemon's guilt and regret for things he did to his brother, and I loved the ending of the first episode, without spoilers, the first 2 episodes of this season were absolutely phenomenal, dealing with grief and vengeance, and I loved the way dragon riders are chosen, and the whole one-take scene in episode 7.
Overall, this was still a good season, despite its issues, but this bridge season definitely bothered me much more than The Boys Season 4, another bridge season that still had its own pay-offs and arcs.
My Rating: 7.5/10
