This documentary, that is based off of the book in the same name, is a picture of how religious nationalism, specifically within the vain of American militarized right wing version of Christianity, plays a role in who governs us in the local, state and federal governments. While we have the raging evangelicals on the streets on January 6th, “The Family” are a secret organization who have been funded billions of money in order to push legislation and discrimination-based laws that keep our country from progressing in the right direction.
What we know today about Christianity in America is far outside the teachings of a brown, Palestinian Jew that is Jesus of Nazareth, and is instead a religion based in white supremacy that has the American flag next to a Christian flag. The Family have funded courts and big named organizations disguising it as “philanthropy”, helped to prop up politicians that work against our interests, etc.
This is interesting given the political and social turmoil that I am currently writing this review in. It gives historical context dating back to the 60s-80s as to how we got here. If we want to know more context on the pathway to Project 2025’s right wing playbook, watch this documentary. Here are also some books that I recommend:
1) the power worshippers - Katherine Stewart
2) democracy in chains- Nancy McLean
3) Jesus and John Wayne- Kristin Kobez Du Mez
4) Dark Money - Jane Meyer
5) The Shadow Network - Anne Nelson
