"True Detective" S01 is not just your usual story revolving around the search for a killer and the cat and mouse game followed by it. It's a story of self discovery of two detectives Rust Cohle, a stone cold Nihilist and Marty, an average optimist and how their job affects their personalities and vice-versa. Every human being has a Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde but we don't really express it a lot often but unknowingly we do express it sometimes. "True Detective" S01 is a study into this Dr.Jekyll-Mr.Hyde Duality of Human behaviour pinned into a great murder mystery story. The series sets it's bleak atmosphere starting with the charatcers setup, the aesthetics, etc. which gives a sense of horror and dread. True Detective delves deep into the process of crime scene investigation, forensics, the bureaucracy in the CID and explores themes like nihilism, existentialism, anti natalism, cultism, religious extremism and what not even a little bit of Physics. I loved the Non linear narrative of this series which didn't confuse and at the same time was seamless thanks to the editing and staging. Especially E04 single shot scene was the best I've seen in years. Not to mention how real the cinematography was. It took straight to the small town of Louisiana. "True Detective" not just had the thrills and chills but made me question my existence and this whole world which only great works can do. Nic Palazaato and Cary Joji Fukanunga take a bow!
