David E. Kelley has done some great stuff on television. Big Little Lies and The Undoing were both excellent and Love and Death is another great series from him. I'd say it's just a tad weaker than Big Little Lies and The Undoing, but it does manage to come very close. The show is incredibly well-written and directed. Every storyline is compelling and properly fleshed out. I particularly liked the parts that dealt with the investigation and the trial. The murder sequence is also a big standout. The first three episodes are a bit unevenly paced and I found myself getting bored a couple of times. However, after that, the show becomes much better. That's not to say that the first three episodes are bad. They're certainly very good, but just not on the same level as the rest. The cast of Love and Death is excellent. Elizabeth Olsen delivers a superb performance as Candy Montgomery. I have become a big fan of hers thanks to her work as Mother Wanda in the MCU and she continues to show tremendous range. She nailed this role and the fact that she didn't get an Emmy nomination is a travesty. Jesse Plemons and Lily Rabe are also great in their roles while Tom Pelphrey is a surprising scene-stealer as Candy's lawyer. He did a fabulous job. Krysten RItter does a good job, but I felt like the series didn't use her well. She's a great actress, but she didn't have a lot to do as Candy's best friend. Overall, despite having some issues here and there, Love and Death is for the most part a truly engrossing true crime miniseries and another win for David E. Kelley on the small screen.
