I'm at a loss for words
It's not because this blew me away or anything like that
But because I felt so much while watching this
I don't know how to put those feelings into words
But for the sake of how great this was, I'll try
K-On! Is not about music or school
At the heart of this story is simply friendship
The kind of friendship that feels real and warm
The kind that only comes with the innocence of youth
The whole gang go on everyday adventures like applying for a passport or a school field trip and yet the whole thing feels so big.
The show captures the "anything is possible" vision of youth
Naoko Yamada's voice is ALL OVER THIS SHOW
As someone who has basically studied her work since discovering A Silent Voice I know a Yamada project when I see it
She had this level of reality and warmth that she brings to all of her projects. Yes this show is goofy and heartwarming but it's also true to life. There's a moment in the last episode where Azusa is just staring at her 4 seniors as they're graduating and the sound dissipates. We see how happy the 4 girls are. We see it in their movements, in their strides, and (Yamada's feet obsession again) in their happy feet. Yet Azusa is sad. It's such a bittersweet moment and we see all this without a word being spoken. The show has Azusa explain her feelings later on but for this one moment you completely understand and feel every single emotion that Azusa is feeling and it captures such a realistic feeling of bittersweet happiness so well.
I wanted to watch the movie before the last episode but I couldn't resist finishing the show with just one episode remaining. This was a blast and while the first half of season 2 drags A LOT the whole show is just a blast. A ray of sunshine on a cloudy day. this show could make the meanest mizer grin and chuckle. Definitely glad I finally got around to this.
