Really really weird season. There’s some episodes and plotlines that I think worked well, but so much of this just feels all over the place in a way that I don’t really vibe with. It doesn’t help that the final episode is probably one of my least favorites of the series. The ending note of the episode is incredibly strange.. not only in terms of the literal things that happen in it (which I’ve grown accustomed to in this show) but what it means for the characters in a series that isn’t entirely episodic and deals with genuine character growth and development. I can’t say I understand where they’re going with this. As always the alternative animation (and regular animation) is really great. I particularly enjoyed the stop motion stuff in Fledging Day, and the character design work in Screech Leeches. Salad Days (iirc) is probably one of my favorite episodes from a story-perspective. Really enjoyed how they handled the dynamic and conversation between Bertie and her boss once she realized she was working with her former boss. Sort of a shame that this thread is pretty much dropped entirely in future episodes.
