"What we know is a drop, what we don't know is an ocean."
-------------------
This episode takes us on a journey back in time. We're, the viewers, are following Mikkel. Essentially, we ARE Mikkel. Lost and confused at what's happening.
The show introduces us to quite a few unfamiliar characters...at least, that's what we might think at first.
Evidently, times change. However, people stay the same. They're making their way through life, love, lie, have affairs, suffer, harbor secrets, go insane...
We meet Claudia, the first female director of the infamous nuclear power plant. The power plant faces issues of unknown nature.
Time is not linear. It's cyclical. The events happening now are not unheard of. Birds are falling from the sky. Power blackouts are rampant.
The number 33 is ever present. 33 years ago, 33 sheep...the gospel of Mark 13.33.
The show finds an intricate way to catch up with the past through the characters we already partially know. Maybe I have a small problem with how soon in the show we get this type of episode. We didn't spend enough time with our main ensemble to make sense of it all. Even their respective pictures of past and present don't help much at the end of the episode. I had to take many notes to remember their identities, and still, I had issues of putting it together.
As for positives, I loved that we got to meet Helge, even in passing. He seemed to have been infatuated with Claudia, and the book he gifted her was the one we're oh so well familiar with. "A journey through time."
We're still so lost and frustrated, living through Mikkel and his woes.
The sound of a clock ticking, haunting, and foreboding accompanies Ulrich on his quest to find his son. They don't even realize how close they are to each other.
Sharing the same space. Divided by time.
