Heroes (2006)
The problem with this show is that the writers strike (like with many other shows at the time) really killed the production of the second series and so this never really recovered. Season one is a masterclass in story telling, and is genuinely an original, creative story about ordinary people with super human abilities coming together to save New York from a villain set on destroying the city (queue the parallels to 9/11 because this was 2005 and they were pretty obvious with it). The character development is phenomenal and the way each story line weaves together takes a great level of dedication to the writing and direction. Much more interesting than most superhero media you get nowhere-days (except maybe the boys). And season two is criticised a lot, and I get it. But they did the best with what they had and in hindsight, the reason it doesn’t match up to the first season is because the first season was brilliant, and without the same level of script writing, it was just set up to fail. And I suggest we just don’t talk about season three onwards, because as I said, the show never really recovered from that point…
