My Steins;Gate journey is not over yet, still I must write a few words about this peculiar (in a good way) show. As everyone warned me about a slow start to the season, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I actually enjoyed it right off the bat. Specifically, I have to acknowledge the quirky humor. I admit it's a little wacky at times (re:Daru), however, it's right up my alley. The plot itself, as in any time travel show, is intricate and intriguing, grabbing your attention from the very first episode. I'm usually not a nitpicking person, so any scientific inaccuracies or straight-up ridiculous theories don't concern me much. I recognize that the show has many weird gimmicks, like the main device - Phone Microwave, which is never explained. You just have to accept that they know what they're doing. Yet what truly sold me - the fantastic multi-layered characters. The hero of the story hides behind his "mad scientist" bravado, pretending to be an evil genius who doesn't care about anyone around him. However, as the story progresses, his kindness shines through. His empathy and the ability to love and care so deeply crumble his hard exterior and let his true nature come out. How can I not mention the iconic laugh that plays in my head even now? El Psy Congroo! Mayuri is the literal sunshine. The amount of love I feel for her is insurmountable. The way she talks about herself in 3rd person is so special to me, so endearing. Daru is a little rough for me since he's too much of a pervert. He grows on you, however. The main idea of the show is so beautiful. Love is the strongest power in the world. It lives through time, it has no restrictions, no beginning, and no end (Okabe and Makise). Everyone who felt strong emotions of love gained the Reading Steiner ability. At least, that's how I interpreted it. Even if it's not the case, the show doubles down on the themes of family and friends, sacrifice in the name of love, and even saving the world. What else is there to say? TOO-TOO-ROO !!!
