I'm really hoping this doesn't get perceived as the "social media bad" episode because I don't think that was where Russell was going with this. It felt more like rich people being blissfully ignorant of the outside world and refusing to listen to the help that they were very obviously trying to receive, only truly listening when someone they liked or looked up to spoke to them. That ending was insane and I feel the true meaning of the episode came out there. They accepted the Doctor's help and then as soon as they didn't need him anymore they abandoned him. They felt better than him. We know as the audience that they will die, and the Doctor knows that too. But stubbornness and ignorance is powerful
