on a serious note regarding becky i do think this season is an insane example of how asian people are edited down on survivor and given just a fraction of the screentime of white players. this might be true with other minority ethnic groups as well but i’m specifically talking about asian people on american survivor bc of the studies on the way they’re treated in the survivor editing room. becky and yul deserved to go down in survivor history as one of those really iconic effective and loyal duos, but i swear to god their interactions got maybe three minutes of collective screentime across the entire season? and that’s maybe even a generous estimation. i totally agree with what yul and other plays have said about this season being a good idea simply for the fact that it made for a more diverse cast, but what they do and do not decide to show is telling. you cannot convince me that there wasn’t hours of footage of the two of them bonding and strategising and building the narrative of a power team (which was stated but never shown) and it’s just not good storytelling beyond anything else. i haven’t watched any of the new seasons but i heard they’ve improved on this issue? but yeah, for a season that was controversial for a stupid reason, it’s bonkers how little screentime was given to the two players who dominated the season, made an alliance on day one and then sat there together in the final three.
