Season 5 takes a bit of a dip in quality, especially the last half but still a good season! Mostly because of the character dynamics feeling a little off, like now they don’t really have a reason for all being together now. But beside that I have two major issues with this season.
1. Jamm. God I hate him so much, and not in the way where you are supposed to hate him because he’s an antagonist, I hate that he was ever put into the show. Parks and Rec is a very optimistic show so I understand how it can be hard to write an antagonist that fits but this is not it. Parks and Rec has had good antagonist that fit: Bobby Newport and Jennifer Barkley. You rooted against them but they weren’t the embodiment of evil, they were still well-rounded characters. Jamm is just horrible and brings the vibe of the whole show down.
2. Ann’s pregnancy plot line. I think this could have been done very well. Ann’s character had always been known for dating someone and that being the only thing she adds to the show. It would be nice if they had focus on herself and then decide to have a baby BY HERSELF but that’s not what happened. She says “my idea of a perfect family does not involve a soulmate” and it would be nice to see that representation and as it would be good for her character but instead she ends up with Chris and having the traditional American nuclear family. I don’t hate her and Chris together I just think they should have either done the single mother plot or the Chris plot, not both.
