"Harry Potter on steroids" "This review is only for season 1. (ep1-12)" "Cream puffs over everything!!!" Set in a magical world in which an individual's position within society are defined by the power and skill with magic, Mash Burnedead is a young man without as much as an ounce of magic in his blood. In order to live a peaceful life with his adoptive father, Regro, Mash will need to become a Divine Visionary, a title which is only given to exceptional students from the Easton Magic Academy. Despite having no magic whatsoever, Mash goes to the magic school, determined to survive and show the world that muscles can beat magic. (Source: imdb) Mashle is a fun and very entertaining anime. I binged through it in two sessions with a friend A-1 pictures, who recently worked on Solo leveling, did a great job on the animation. Also the sound design and the ost, including op and end are fire. Apart from the recap episode, I watched all the episodes in German dub, which was great as always. The story is very entertaining and funny, but there were fewer really dramatic moments (or moments that were really emotional). Also, despite there only 12 episodes, sometimes there were some boring moments/episodes. I think the pacing could have been tightened up a bit at times. But what kept me watching were the interesting and diverse characters and the blunt humor of the show. All the characters with their funny, quirky and sometimes slightly silly traits quickly grew on me. The many obvious references/homages to Harry Potter make every Potterhead's heart beat faster. Even the titles of the episodes are structured in the same way as the Potter films, so: "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" and with Mashle for example; "Mash Burnedead and the Magic Mirror" (s1 ep12). I also liked that the bad guys were never just bad for the sake of being bad, but all had their understandable fates and motives that made them that way. I'm really looking forward to watching the second season soon, because of the somewhat open ending and of course I want to know how the journey of Mash and his friends continues. In fact, it's already out at the time I'm writing this. All in all, it's an entertaining anime that you can easily binge in one or two evenings. There are some small dry spells, but the characters and the humor make the series worth watching. Rating: "hilarious" 3.5 out of 5 stars Short reviews and thoughts on the individual episodes can be found on my serializd profile. series I watched in 2024 (https://srlzd.com/l/2349e)
