This is a hard show to rank properly, on one hand season 1 is a amazing introduction to a character that shouldn’t be likeable but is and you also route for him ontop of that the sense of mystery between the ice truck killer and his connection to Dexter was a fantastic dynamic. The side cast was cool and written well and had a sense of humour to the dark and twisted show . The finale of season 1 was good Dexter has too choose between right and wrong, blood or adoptive family and his code . It breaks Dexter and we get an insight into maybe he’s not just hollow zombie maybe he does feel emotions and attachments . Season two was the same with a fantastic set of characters, antagonists and things Dexter had to face and over come placing his character undress stress , similar to season 7 where his character becomes sloppy at times and makes dumb choices on the spot . Season 2 and 7 are fantastic bc they are similar and follow and similar foot path , unfortunately both finales are good but have real shit moments where the writers take the hard decisions of Dexter facing his rule in order to take his character in a different direction ( not a good direction I may add) Then there’s season 3 I’ve not got much to say other then I actually like it a lot more then most people and that’s okay I understand Dexter isn’t really making decisions Dexter would make and it’s quite slow and repetitive. Although Miguel was a great character I feel like I have to lower this season , Dexter learns some it big in this season , don’t trust people or let them in or give them another chance it only leads to chaos and loved ones getting hurt . He says he’s not letting anyone in but not 2 seasons later it seems every other episode he’s letting someone in or freeing someone . Season 4 is a masterpiece I genuinely love season 4 it’s tense and anxiety inducing the dynamic between Arthur and Dexter is arguably the best in the show the other between them is something that was not beaten in the show after. Dexter went through a lot during the season, pushing him to the limits with his new son and the false identity he was using to get closer to Arthur Mitchell. This is also the first time we see him gain proper emotions and lash out and even get stressed . His character was amazing and the symbolism of the moon and Rita’s death was amazing along with 5x1 which is where I wish I stopped although a great episode. Unfortunately the rest of the show is mid or down right boring and terrible to watch Dexter don’t feel like Dexter he does dumb and weird shit , breaking rules and established things told to us about his character. It’s just horrible the amount of shit he gets away wit like is there any cameras in this world I can write for ever why it’s shit but I don’t want to atm it’s just really disappointing because the highs are so high and the lows are so low and Dexter out 6-7/8 seasons is a incredible character and really well written. But oh well o guess
