Wittily told but mortifying to digest. Dances above dark, bottled up asphyxiation and laughing at the face of madness so we deny eating ourselves away from the screen's poisonous, inhabitable (un)comfort zone. Something about this show feels important to tell: Jessica Gunning is an unhinged nightmare and actively seeing a human being so hungry for nonsensical chaos feels so necessary on screen. For all intents and purposes, the stalkee was one i felt quite disappointed about- Donny was such an unsympathetic, self pitied trainwreck that went as far as endangering the reverse-abuse message having third parties on the firing line, at least until i started to catch on the slow-decaying memo: The punchline for the crumbling façade of a falsely confident skyscraper wobbling into self-destruction. It's unflinching, maybe too much of an endurance test that shifted my brain chemistry every episode from not-loving-it, ugly deja vu's and why-am-i-doing-this-to-myself just to grow a huge sympathy to it's wrapup scene. A 5 hour watch that felt like weeks, the hoops of fire Richard Gadd jumps are a testament to his artistic resilience and definitely a crackpot "so dark it's not funny" Ari Aster-coded trip to hell that rewards a bandaid to the cycle of unspoken hurt. iphoen
