Gonna make a short review for season 4 SPOILERS —————— Review maybe all over the place writing this first thing in the morning Season 4 is a great season of Dexter and by the sounds of it the last , I had high expectations for this season and I was a little underwhelmed but that does NOT take away from how good this season is. The first of the season is great and really builds the blocks of the last few episode run . The dynamic between Arthur and Dexter is fantastic and one of my favourite in the show, Arthur and Dexter going by the “ Kyle “ learn from one another and bring out the worst , Dexter questioning his morals and even not killing Arthur twice which leads to the inevitable downfall of the Harrison’s “born in blood “ , carrying the themes of sins of the father and human nature/ addiction . Dexter try’s to gain Arthur’s trust to get closer to kill in revenge for his sister and fitting his code but in doing so sees how Arthur has destroyed his family and this gives Dexter the reflection of what he could and may become especially with the birth of Harrison. The beautiful thing writing wise about Rita’s death is that Dexter hunts Arthur as he fits his code , Arthur kills Rita as he fits his code . The first half as previously said is great but is the foundation for why the last few episodes hit so hard .after Arthur hits his son Dexter emotionally reacts, which we see more off , but in doing so blows his cover leading to the constant back and forward of Arthur and Dexter trying to one up each other. Yes Dexter kills Arthur but who gets the last laugh; Dexters family is destroyed and crumbing and “struggling to show he cares “ about Rita’s death . It may be a stretch but I truly believe Rita’s death hit Dexter hard , harder then he could imagine, but he’s always told him self he’s not got emotions due to his psychological issues, I think Dexter is trying ti convince him self he don’t care and in doing so is forcing it which is why it’s so obvious to other people “ he don’t care “ , but he does he brutally killed a man almost unprovoked like a animal which is the only time/ a rare time we have seen Dexter kill someone out of pure rage or unplanned , after this Dexter screams and cry’s showing he does care a lot . Another thing proving this is when he’s in the car by himself imaging his adoptive father, he says Rita’s so much more then a cover now . Seasons 4 is a 9.5/10 A great season ; comment what I should watch next as I’m not sure if I’m watching to season 8.
