Mariko’s martyrdom is a bittersweet conclusion but with how beautifully it shows her loyalty and courage, allowing her an honorable death that respects both her Christian faith and samurai heritage, I can’t be too upset. Anna Sawai has really outdone herself here with a truly moving performance. Blackthorne respecting her choice and going so far as to be her second, giving her something Buntaro withheld… that whole scene was so raw and emotional and utterly devastating 
     
This was a riveting episode, each scene creating more tension and suspense than the last, leading up to that inevitable climax. Now time for Toranaga to finally take Osaka
