This show captivated me from the third episode, when I was feeling down and wanted it to comfort me I knew this would be something amazing. The score, costuming, and interiors are dazzling from the first second and this stays consistent until the very end. We get to see the development of so many people and go through their heartbreak, grief, new ambitions, marriages, and more. Fellowes does an incredible job of creating this dual life in the house. The characters are so lively that I truly was empathizing with them throughout the story. But not only are we treated to personal journeys, but societal ones as well. The show truly takes place in the tumultuous turn of society and its fascinating. We watch as tradition is slowly let go of as the service industry seems to be slipping into thin air. The most incredible part of it to me is that even though Downton is still standing and faced multiple close calls, we still get to see the slow transformation into the future.
