Lodge 49 heard my pleas for fewer TV dramas about rich people and more stories about people living on the edge of a broken economic system who are close to tipping over. But it's not just about struggling to survive as that's not all we're meant to do. Lodge 49 is about meaning, community, and loss. The loss Dud and Liz suffered when their dad died in the loss of the people that they were when he was still around.
The show largely centers around an esoteric Lodge order and it's weird and silly dressing up in those robes in the 21st century. It features a mystery, but he mystery serves as a vehicle for character arcs. It's a shame it got cancelled because it deserved more time.
